The Most Common Issues With Suzuki Vehicles

Japanese cars are often known for their reliability, however like all vehicles, they aren’t immune to issues. Suzuki produces some impressive vehicles known for their durability, giving you a car that you can rely on, but when they go wrong, owners are quick to raise their concerns. If you own a Suzuki vehicle or you’re thinking about buying one, knowing the most commonly reported issues can help you spot them before they get worse. Here are the most common problems with Suzuki vehicles according to owners:

Headlights Overheating

One of the more commonly reported concerns by Suzuki owners is a particular issue relating to the headlights, with claims that they overheat and often burn out. The Grand Vitara seems to be the most prone to this issue, with a defective electrical system usually resulting in headlights that burn out fast and far too often for the norm. The daytime running lights are a particular concern, as the system allows excessive heat build-up that can lead to the lights catching on fire.

Engine Oil

Another issue reported with Suzuki vehicles is that some models have been known to consume engine oil faster than normal. This issue seems most prevalent in the Suzuki Swift diesel, both the first and second generation. Rapid oil consumption, even following a service, is usually a result of head gasket issues and this should be repaired as soon as possible. Driving with low engine oil can cause more extensive damage to your engine and the repairs can be expensive – if your Suzuki is going through oil rapidly, get your car checked over as soon as possible.

Power Steering

The 2012 and 2013 Suzuki SX4 both experience issues with the power steering system, usually relating to the pumps. When the weather is cold, the pumps are known to perform poorly and can ultimately lead to problems with the steering and therefore, make for a dangerous drive. Suzuki did issue a recall for this particular problem, so if you own one of these models or are looking to buy one, you should check the repair history.

Inflated MPG

Suzuki was under fire for issues with MPG readings lately, and it turns out it all had to do with an incorrect test. Millions of vehicles were giving false, inflated readings for their miles per gallon abilities due to an incorrect test and calculation on Suzuki’s part. While this didn’t affect the driving experience directly, it was and is something to consider if you’re looking for an economic vehicle for your daily drive.
