The Most Commonly Reported Problems With Ford Vehicles

Ford and its vehicles have been around for decades, taking to the streets as early as 1903 in Detroit, Michigan in the United States. Since their founding, Ford has gone on to create and distribute some of the most reliable vehicles in the industry, but they certainly aren’t immune to faults. From oil leaks to issues with the bodywork, all the way through to more modern issues including connectivity problems, Ford cars certainly have their fair share of problems reported by their owners. Here, we’ve laid out some of the most common reports from drivers, as well as recalls worth noting.

Oil Leaks

Every vehicle can be prone to oil leaks over time, but VehicleHistory also report that “Ford problems with oil leaks have often come from improperly sealed components or poorly manufactured components.” (https://www.vehiclehistory.com/articles/fords-most-notorious-problems-you-should-know-of) A fully functioning oil supply for your vehicle is vital not only for efficiency and handling but for safety too and unfortunately, some Ford models are reportedly likely to experience springing a leak or two. These leaks, however, are usually easy to repair.

Bodywork Issues

Whether it’s rust, discolouration or flaking paintwork, issues with bodywork can be some of the hardest to ignore. Ford isn’t the only manufacturer that suffers from these issues, but small changes in the metals used or the formation of the bodywork itself can lead to issues with how it holds up, particularly in adverse or rapidly changing weather conditions. Ford themselves, according to FordProblems.com, have faced class-action lawsuits relating to their 2000-2007 Ford Aluminium hoods being susceptible to rust. They claim that “2000-2007 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicle owners are learning that Ford knew about corrosion issues during the assembly process, but failed to correct the problem.” (https://www.fordproblems.com/hood-rust/). Ford are now having to deal with the issue as a result.

Connectivity

Modern cars come with all the bells and whistles you could possibly want. From automatic safety features, to infotainment systems and Bluetooth connectivity, these new features make driving fun again – it also gives vehicles more things that can go wrong. According to VehicleHistory.com, Ford owners are faced with connectivity issues on their dashboard, claiming that “some state their dashboards (in Ford vehicle models since 2015) do not respond or will not connect to their smartphones.” This includes issues with using entertainment apps and voice recognition features. Spark Plug Issues

There are a number of vehicles out there created by a number of different manufacturers that just seem to eat through spark plugs but some Ford vehicles have a unique issue when it comes to theirs. According to FordProblems, “trying to remove spark plugs from Ford’s 3-valve 4.6L, 5.4L and 6.8L 2004-2008 engines can cause part of the plug to break off and get stuck in the cylinder head.” (https://www.fordproblems.com/spark-plug-stuck/). There were also reports from FordProblems that “Ford Triton engines are spitting out spark plugs” through ejection (https://www.fordproblems.com/spark-plug-ejection/) which can of course be a serious cause for concern. A proper repair from an expert mechanic can help to prevent and solve this issue before it can cause any damage
