Your New Year’s Resolutions For Your Car In 2022

The new year is a great time to get into new habits, but not all resolutions have to focus entirely on us. For car owners, New Year’s resolutions offer the perfect opportunity to get into better car care habits for 2022, a number of which could help to improve the health, quality and lifespan of our cars. Whether it’s making a point of scheduling regular checks with a mechanic or simply keeping on top of the cleaning and detailing of your vehicle, we’ve compiled some new year’s resolutions you could adopt for 2022 to keep your car in top shape.

Schedule Seasonal Checks

We’re all guilty of putting off services or checks from time to time, but the reality is that getting your car checked regularly can help you catch any worsening issues before they can become irreparable. One of the best and most effective ways to prevent bigger vehicle repairs is to keep on top of regular maintenance. It can feel like a drag or an inconvenience at the time, but scheduling mechanic visits for a tune-up or service are a sure-fire way to ensure that you don’t end up with an even bigger inconvenience down the line.

Keep It Clean

Another New Year’s Resolution that both you and your car will thank you for, is keeping your car clean both inside and out. While you won’t want to stop and detail your vehicle top-to-bottom every week, at least running your car through a car wash every few weeks or so can help prevent long-term dirt-related damage or build up. You can protect the paint and finish by cleaning the outside of your car regularly while cleaning the interior will help protect your carpets and upholstery from building up dirt, debris and dust. Every so often, you can embark on a more thorough cleaning of your vehicle by detailing – the level that your car will need depends on the cleaning schedule overall, but you can determine the best ways to manage this to suit you and your vehicle best.

Check Your Tyre Pressure More Often

Unless your car has a tyre pressure monitoring system, you might not be immediately aware of how the pressure is holding up on an average day. The temperature, weight in the car and even the road conditions can affect the air pressure in your tyres, so it’s important to make sure that you are keeping on top of checking this pressure and adjusting it accordingly. Set yourself a resolution to check your tyre pressure every month or so depending on how often you drive – the right tyre pressure can increase the lifespan of your tyres, as well as improve your overall mileage.

Check Your Tyres

When it comes to your tyres, you need to check more than just the pressure – keeping an eye on the condition of your tyres is also important for keeping them in top shape, and ensuring that you continue to drive safely on the roads in all conditions. It’s not always easy to tell when your tyres aren’t road-worthy, so it’s crucial that you keep an eye on their condition regularly to prevent blow-outs on the road. The tread is one of the most important features to check, and a legal requirement to be within the right limits. The tread depth should be over 1.6mm to be legally safe to drive.

Complete Engine and Fluid Checks

Finally, checking your engine fluid levels regularly can help you catch any leaks or low fluids before they can cause any trouble. Just like we need to stay hydrated, so do our cars! Check your engine oil, washer fluid and coolant levels every few weeks to be sure that your vehicle is not only well-maintained but that there are no apparent issues that you need to get seen. If you do think there is something wrong with your engine or its fluid-related components, we are on hand to offer engine repairs as needed.
