Is your Land Rover showing any of these?
Land Rover automatics give plenty of warning before they fail. Caught early, most of these faults can be fixed with a targeted repair rather than a full replacement.
Limp mode or warning light
The gearbox locks into one gear and cuts power to protect itself. Often a solenoid, sensor or control unit fault.
Harsh or delayed shifts
A thump into Drive or Reverse, or a pause before it engages. Commonly worn fluid or a valve body problem.
Slipping or flaring revs
Revs rise but the car doesn't pick up. Usually worn clutch packs or torque converter wear.
Gear hunting
The gearbox keeps changing up and down at steady speeds. Often linked to degraded fluid or a control fault.
Fluid leaks
Red or brown fluid under the car. On ZF units this is often the mechatronic sleeve seal, a known weak point.
Loss of drive
The car won't move in Drive or Reverse. Stop driving it; we can talk you through collection or recovery.

A new gearbox isn't always the answer
Main dealer quotes for a new Land Rover gearbox can run to £8,000 or more. In many cases the fault is a single part, such as a seal, solenoid or torque converter, that can be repaired or rebuilt for a fraction of that.
We run a full diagnostic first and only recommend what's needed, with a clear quote before any work begins.

Land Rover gearbox repair FAQs
How much does a Land Rover gearbox repair cost?
It depends on the fault. A seal, solenoid or valve body repair costs far less than a rebuild, and a rebuild costs far less than a new gearbox. We give you an initial estimate on the phone and a confirmed quote after diagnosis, before any work starts.
Can I keep driving with a gearbox warning light?
We don't recommend it. Driving on a known gearbox fault can turn a small repair into a full rebuild. If the car feels different or the warning is on, get it checked as soon as you can.
Can you collect my Land Rover if it won't drive?
Yes. Tell us where the car is and whether it can be driven, and we'll explain the collection or recovery options. Collection and delivery is included on repairs over £1,500, subject to our terms.
Will the repair protect my existing warranty?
We fit OEM or manufacturer warranty-approved parts, and we work with major UK warranty providers. Let us know about your warranty at the start so we can help with the claim where your policy allows.
What guarantee do I get?
Every Land Rover gearbox repair and rebuild is guaranteed for 12 months or 12,000 miles on parts and labour.
How long will my Land Rover be off the road?
Diagnostic findings are usually ready within 2 to 3 days of collection. Repair time depends on the fault and parts, and we'll give you a time estimate with your quote.
