Judder pulling away
A shudder from a standstill or in slow traffic. Common on PowerShift dual-clutch gearboxes as the clutches wear.
Hesitation or jerking
A delay, then a lurch, when you pull away or change gear. Often clutch, actuator or control unit related.
Transmission warning
A "transmission malfunction" message or a gearbox light on the dash, sometimes with limp mode.
Harsh or delayed shifts
A thump into Drive or Reverse on the Ranger's automatic, or a pause before it engages.
Slipping or flaring revs
Revs rise but the car doesn't pick up. Usually worn clutch packs or torque converter wear.
Loss of drive
The car won't move in Drive or Reverse. Stop driving it; we can talk you through collection or recovery.

How much does a Ford gearbox repair cost?
It depends on the fault. A targeted repair costs far less than a rebuild, and a rebuild costs far less than a new gearbox. We give you an initial estimate on the phone and a confirmed quote after diagnosis, before any work starts.
Can a Ford PowerShift gearbox be repaired?
In most cases, yes. Depending on the fault, the fix might be a clutch pack, actuator or control unit repair, followed by recalibration. We diagnose it first so you only pay for what is actually needed.
Can I keep driving with a gearbox warning light?
We don't recommend it. Driving on a known gearbox fault can turn a small repair into a full rebuild. If the car feels different or the warning is on, get it checked as soon as you can.
Can you collect my Ford if it won't drive?
Yes. Tell us where the car is and whether it can be driven, and we'll explain the collection or recovery options. Collection and delivery is included on repairs over £1,500, subject to our terms.
