Mini Gearbox Repair Specialists for CVT, Aisin Automatic, DCT and Manual Transmissions
Mini has used four different automatic transmission types across its three generations. Each one has its own fault patterns. We repair all of them.

CVT Automatic
The CVT fitted to first generation Minis is the most fault-prone transmission in the Mini range. Sudden complete loss of drive is the most severe symptom, often accompanied by a loud bang and warning lights. The drive belt connecting the pulleys inside the transmission snaps without warning. Metal debris scatters through the unit causing widespread internal damage. A fluid service is the most important preventative measure.
Aisin 6-Speed Automatic
The Aisin 6-speed fitted to second generation Minis is a more reliable unit than the CVT but develops faults with age and mileage. Shift solenoid failure causing the engine to rev without the car moving, torque converter shudder, actuator clogging from dirty fluid and the gearbox entering limp mode are the most commonly reported faults. Fluid changes are described as sealed for life by Mini but specialist servicing at 40,000 to 60,000 miles significantly reduces fault rates.
Aisin 8-Speed and DCT
Third generation Minis use either the Aisin 8-speed torque converter automatic or the Getrag 7-speed DCT depending on model and specification. The Aisin 8-speed develops actuator faults and solenoid clogging, particularly as mileage increases and fluid is not changed. The Getrag DCT develops clutch wear causing shuddering in stop-start traffic and a transmission fault warning on the dashboard. JCW models with the Aisin 8-speed have reported limp mode activation, usually caused by dirty or degraded transmission fluid.
At Service4Service we repair all Mini transmission types including CVT, Aisin 6-speed automatic, Aisin 8-speed automatic, Getrag 7-speed DCT and manual gearboxes across all Mini generations and models. We use Mini-specific diagnostic equipment to read fault codes before recommending any work.
