Automatic gearbox specialists

Not sure if it is a manual or an automatic?

No clutch pedal, a PRND gate, paddles or a dual-clutch badge. Automatic faults need a specialist. Pedal manuals are not the work we do.

  • No clutch pedal, but it still feels like a clutch problem?
  • PRND on the lever, or DSG / Powershift in the handbook?
  • Want a straight answer on whether we can repair it?

A manual has a clutch pedal. An automatic does not. Dual-clutch, CVT and conventional automatics all sit in the automatic camp from the driver's seat. Service4Service repairs those. We do not repair pedal manuals.

If you are not sure, tell us the registration. We will say if it is a unit we work on.

Manual vs automatic gearbox

A manual gearbox uses a pedal clutch. You choose the ratio. An automatic gearbox has no clutch pedal. A torque converter and clutch packs, a dual-clutch, or a CVT do the changing.

From the seat: three pedals is a manual. Two pedals is some form of automatic, even if it has paddles or a manual gate.

Service4Service does not repair manual gearboxes or the pedal clutch on a manual car. Automatic and dual-clutch work is what we do.

* We do not repair manual gearboxes or the pedal clutch on a manual car. The comparison is here because people search it. The repairs we carry out are on automatics and dual-clutch units.

Guessing the gearbox type leads to the wrong repair

A dual-clutch that judders is not a pedal clutch kit. A conventional automatic that slips is not a manual clutch. Wrong parts waste time. Diagnosis and the registration come first.

How to tell what you have

If any of these sound like your car, do not wait for it to fail on the road.

Three pedals

Manual. We do not repair these.

PRND or a J-gate

Conventional automatic. That is our work.

DSG, S tronic, Powershift, PDK, EDC

Dual-clutch. That is our work.

CVT or Multitronic in the handbook

Belt-and-pulley automatic. That is our work.

Paddles but no clutch pedal

Still an automatic or dual-clutch. Not a manual.

Tiptronic on the lever

Usually a conventional automatic with a manual gate.

Why the repair is not the same job

A pedal clutch lives between engine and gearbox. A dual-clutch pack lives inside the gearbox. A conventional automatic uses a converter and packs. A diagnostic check is how we avoid mixing them up.

DSG and Powershift are dual-clutch names, not manuals with extra software.

1

Count the pedals

Three is a manual. Two is automatic territory.

2

Check the handbook

DSG, CVT, ZF, Powershift and similar names tell you the family.

3

Call with the registration

We will say if it is work we do.

The automatic work we do

If there is no clutch pedal, there is a good chance it is a unit we repair. Dual-clutch packs, conventional automatic packs, converters, mechatronics and diagnosis are core work.

  • Conventional automatics and ZF units
  • DSG, Powershift, PDK, S tronic and other DCTs
  • CVT diagnosis
  • Honest no if it is a pedal manual

FAQs

Straight answers from a transmission specialist.

Three pedals is a manual. Two pedals is an automatic, dual-clutch or CVT. Paddles do not make it a manual.

No. It is a dual-clutch automatic from the driver's seat. Two clutches, no pedal.

No. Automatic, dual-clutch and CVT work is what we do.

An automated manual still has a clutch, with no pedal. Call with the registration. We will tell you if we can help.

Yes. Tiptronic and paddle shift are still automatics.

Because it has clutch packs inside, or a dual-clutch. That is gearbox work, not a pedal kit.
