Having an issue with your EDC gearbox?

Renault dual-clutch judder, jerky shifts or limp mode. EDC clutch faults do not bed in.

  • A Renault EDC that shudders pulling away?
  • Jerky changes or a gearbox warning light?
  • Told you need a new dual-clutch before anyone has tested it?

EDC is Renault's dual-clutch gearbox. Two clutches, no pedal. When it judders or goes into limp mode, that is specialist work. That is core work at Service4Service.

Keep driving a juddering EDC and the packs can contaminate the unit. Call while it still moves.

What is an EDC gearbox?

EDC means Efficient Dual Clutch. It is Renault's dual-clutch gearbox. Two clutch packs, no clutch pedal. Same idea as DSG and Powershift.

It is not a conventional automatic gearbox with a torque converter. A clutch problem on an EDC is gearbox work.

EDC judder does not go away

Low-speed shudder, a bang into gear or limp mode will not polish out. Worn packs glaze. Leave it and a clutch job can become a bigger unit repair.

EDC symptoms people search

If any of these sound like your car, do not wait for it to fail on the road.

Take-off shudder

Shake in first or reverse, worse in traffic.

Jerky shifts

A snatch between gears.

Limp mode

One gear, or a refusal to shift.

Warning light

A transmission lamp on a Renault dual-clutch is not a maybe.

Flare

Revs rise, speed does not.

No odd or no even gears

One of the two clutches has failed.

How an EDC gearbox works

Odd and even gears on separate shafts. The mechatronic applies one clutch, then the other. After packs are replaced the unit needs adaptation.

Skip adaptation and the judder can return immediately.

1

One clutch drives

Odd or even gears.

2

The other waits

The next ratio is pre-selected.

3

Wear shows as shudder

It only gets worse.
