Automatic gearbox specialists

Need an automatic gearbox service?

A skipped interval, dark fluid, or a unit that is still healthy enough to look after. A service is not a flush, and it is not a rebuild.

  • No gearbox oil change in the history?
  • Fluid dark, but the auto still shifts cleanly?
  • Quoted a flush when you asked for a service?

An automatic gearbox service replaces fluid and, where the unit allows, the filter, then sets the level correctly. It is preventative. It will not resurrect burnt packs. Service work on automatics is core at Service4Service.

If the oil already smells burnt, ask for a diagnostic, not only a service.

What is an automatic gearbox service?

A proper service means the correct automatic transmission fluid, a new gearbox filter when the pan comes off, a clean magnet, and the right level at the right temperature. It is not a gearbox flush by default.

A ZF gearbox 8HP, a DSG and a CVT all have different specs and intervals. The wrong bottle is a common way to make a healthy box shudder.

If Drive already slips, a service is not the repair. Start with a diagnostic check.

Lifetime fill still ages

Heat, towing and traffic cook automatic fluid even when a sticker says lifetime. Skip the service and varnish sticks valves. You will meet the gearbox again as a repair, not as a service.

When a service is the right conversation

If any of these sound like your car, do not wait for it to fail on the road.

History blank, shifts still clean

Do the service before it becomes a repair.

Fluid dark but not burnt

Service and inspect the pan.

After a cooler pipe leak, topped up with the wrong oil

Correct spec, then assess.

Manufacturer interval due

Book the service, not a mystery flush.

Already slipping

Diagnosis first. A service may be too late.

Someone flushed it yesterday and it is worse

Stop. Assess debris. Do not repeat it.

What the service involves

We identify the unit, the spec and whether a pan filter, a cartridge or a transmission cooler circuit is in play. Then we change what that gearbox actually needs.

Some dual-clutch units need adaptation after a fill. We do not send you out with the level guessed on a cold dipstick.

1

Identify the unit and the spec

Wrong oil is a fault waiting to happen.

2

Replace fluid and filter where required

Inspect what comes out.

3

Set the level and road test

If the pan was full of clutch, we say so.

Automatic services we carry out

Conventional automatics, dual-clutch and CVT services, with an honest stop if the oil or the pan says the unit is already failing.

  • Correct spec for the gearbox you have
  • Filter and pan inspection
  • Level set at temperature
  • Diagnostic if the oil is already burnt

No gearbox service in the history?

FAQs

Straight answers from a transmission specialist.

Follow the spec for that gearbox, and treat lifetime fill with caution if the car tows, sits in traffic or the oil is dark.

No. Read the flush versus fluid change guide. A service is a controlled drain, fill and filter where fitted.

It can help varnish. It will not fix worn packs.

No. Automatic, dual-clutch and CVT fluid services are the work.

Yes, to the correct spec, including filter where that unit uses one.

Then we stop talking about a service and start talking about a diagnostic.

Do not wait for burnt fluid before the first service

If the history is blank or the oil is dark, tell us the registration. We will service it if that is honest, and diagnose it if it is not.
