Recently a comparison was carried out between the new BMW 328i and the Mercedes Benz C300. It was undertaken as these two manufacturers look to gain the number one spot in the market.

BMW have made a number of upgrades on all components of their vehicles to establish themselves as the front runner in luxury cars. They have worked hard on increasing the return you get from the chassis as well as improving the advanced technology that you’re everyday vehicle now seems to come with.

So how did it do….

When reaching top speeds, the car becomes hesitant. The tyres, Goodyear tyres were used, just don’t match that awesome chassis. They become economical low-rolling-resistance tyres but have a remarkable tendency to roll, and the 328i therefore isn’t very effective at engine-braking. You can pretty much just coast to work.

The car is fitted with a two-stage traction control system however this can disrupt the power delivery and the 245bhp and 350Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged engine begins to lag.

The 3 Series boasts a sublimely engineered chassis that’s talented in all situations, be it cosseting the passengers with a sturdy ride — the car doesn’t bob on its suspension, it sinks as a whole and absorbs bumps and rough road surfaces. There is no danger, ever, of losing the back end.

The interior is bigger than before — in fact the whole car is bigger than before, but lighter. The dash is flawlessly built, the screen is huge, the driving position is perfect, and the electrically assisted steering in the BMW 328i is only second in terms of feel and communication to the new Porsche 911.

The good bits on this BMW are far superior in numbers though. The fuel economy that can be reached with this BMW is incredible for the size it is, and the weight it carries. You can be assured that this car is a beauty to drive and will give you all you want out of a car.

And the Mercedes….

Despite its reputation for a solid build quality and bullet-proof mechanicals, Mercedes have always strived to improve the image of their vehicles and although there have been noble exceptions over the brand’s illustrious 125-year life, this Mercedes C300 is beginning to show signs of real class and elegance, something which anyone would want to drive around in.

However, you tend to get over all the preconceptions when the door closes and the new direct-injected 3.5-litre V6 comes alive. It’s the same engine as the Mercedes C350 but with 54 bhp less. As noticed in the other versions, the seven-speed automatic amazingly manages to pick the right ratio always, so much so that you won’t miss a stick at all. And unlike the super-silent V6s of today, the C300′s engine note has a sort of mechanical thrum at lower revs, although it gets diluted as the revs go up.

Its suspension is solid and remains composed when driven enthusiastically on a straight line or around bends. However, as opposed to traditional wisdom, this Mercedes’ ride becomes a bit choppy and the spring set-up jiggles a bit too much when driven over rough surfaces. Although electronic traction aids kick in unsolicited, it’s a car that readily puts its tail out when chucked around a roundabout. There’s something about the steering in all new Mercedes that makes them feel faultlessly weighted, delivering markedly more feedback than previous versions. But when driven back-to-back with the BMW, it still falls short of matching the tactile sensations conveyed by the 328i’s awesome wheel.

The Interior is exceptional once again, and with all the dials neatly and clearly laid out it is a far better looking interior than is seen on most vehicles. The slick look of the dashboard and the spacious seating in the rear, it is real quality.

And the verdict is….

It’s simple; the BMW 328i is the best car in its class, and possibly the greatest all-rounder on the planet right now.

The 328i even makes more sense than the 335i, if only for the massive advancement the BMW have made in terms of performance, economy and flexibility using no more than four cylinders. The competition really needs to step it up now.

Theoretically, you can’t go wrong with the brilliant 328i. The Mercedes is fighting a losing battle from the onset. The Mercedes C300 is still a class car and one that anyone would want to drive, but the BMW 328i has just piped them on this model.

Drivers throughout the UK are rushing to petrol stations after the Government alerted the country of a possible tanker driver strike. The Government advised drivers to fill up their cars as soon as possible and to also fill up a jerry can to keep safe in the need of an emergency.

Police & Fire services were called out to forecourts amid chaos at garages with a garage in Bournemouth having to close at 11am due to drivers arguing over queue-jumping in a half-a-mile tailback of cars waiting to fill up.

The government have since re-tracked their comments and now recommending only topping up cars with half empty tanks.

Ed Miliband has called David Cameron and Francis Maude, the Cabinet Office minister initially responsible for the message, to apologise. Miliband said: “The prime minister is presiding over a shambles on petrol.”

He followed by saying in a statement: “In a delicate situation which demanded statesmanship, the government showed partisanship. They made a crude decision to play politics with petrol without regard for the consequence.”

The interior design will also take some inspiration from previous models, with typical Range Rover cues of strong ‘structural’ lines in the dash, intersected by straight lines of the centre stack. With 20- inch wheels and styling that eschews typical SUV tough- guy’s cues such as faux skidplates.

Land Rover has announced that for Europe at least, there will be a front- drive version of the vehicle making it the first two-wheel-drive Land Rover in history. The diesel version, which is expected to employ a stop- start feature, will reportedly achieve Fuel Economy similar to a base Mini Cooper.

This vehicle will reach speeds of 0-60mph in 10.6 seconds, having built there lightest diesel engine ever. The 2.2 litre 150hp eD4 has been engineered to deliver quieter, more refined performance. It also contributes to Range Rover’s best fuel economy figures and CO2 emissions of sub 130g/km for the 2WD coupe. Thanks to the extensive use of lightweight materials, the five- door version of the Evoque tips the scales at just 3,890 pounds. But the Evoque is aluminium and Boron- each vehicle is also fitted with 35 pounds of recycled plastics. As in the three-door, the five’s powertrain will be a 2.0-liter turbocharged direct-injection four-cylinder making about 240 hp paired with full-time all-wheel drive. Dimensionally, the Evoque twins are the same except that the five-door is about one inch taller and rear-seat passengers get about two more inches of shoulder room in the more-spacious back seat.

This high performance Evoque has a starting price from £27,995. WOW!

Winter Checks!

Having a Winter Check could save you and your car a lot of hassle in winter months ahead. As everybody knows this time of year is not the best for anyone and for cars it’s exactly the same. These are extensive checks, outside of a standard service, and will help maintain the well being of your car through these colder months. So is it worth taking the risk? BE SAFE!

What we check?

Battery
Checking the battery holding charge using a voltmeter is very important especially if you have an ageing battery. Batteries find winter weather hard going, so by checking the connections are pushed on tightly, wires are in good condition and greasing the terminals will help in winter months.

Alternator
Checking the charge rate of the Alternator is crucial as this charges the battery. Using a voltmeter determines how strong the charge rate is which should be between 13-14 volts. Having this checked could save a lot of bother and damage to the Alternator and Battery.

Anti-Freeze Top Up
The cooling system is the leading cause of engine related breakdowns during the winter months especially. The water in the engine could freeze so by having the Anti-Freeze checked could save this from happening.

Brake Fluid Top Up
With the winter months ahead, visibility is reduced and road surfaces change. Topping up your brake fluid levels will ensure your brakes function correctly, which will save lives!

Inspection of Engine Components
A full inspection of components including Radiator, Driveshaft, Injectors and Drive belt/s etc will all be carried out in the Winter Check. Having these checked early could save a lot of damage and money.

We are offering a Winter Check with every service for just £18. Call us now to take advantage of this SPECIAL OFFER!

The model will sprint from 0 – 60mph in 4.4 seconds and when the speed limiter is removed, is capable of hitting an impressive top speed of 190mph. Despite these impressive performance numbers, the car will deliver an estimated fuel economy of 28.5mpg.

The front of the new M version is a clear indication to the power lying under the hood. The car will sit on a new set of 19- inch M light alloy wheels in double- spoke design and has a wide chrome frame and the free- floating look of the indicator bar, giving the intakes an extremely deep- set look. The interior still carries the sporty design with, Menno leather upholstery, door sills with “M5” lettering, exclusive Aluminium Trace interior trim strips and the BMW Individual liner in Anthracite.

This new model will be mated to a seven- speed dual- clutch M- DCT gearbox and a rear wheel drive chassis, putting it on the par with the CLS63 AMG. The transmission offers a sequential shift pattern for the manual gearshift mode. Alternatively, the driver of this spectacular car can also change gear manually using the standard- fitted shift paddles on the steering wheel- the right- hand paddle for upshifts and the left- hand paddle for downshifts.

The new 2012 BMW M5 is rumoured to be one of the best M to date, and the fastest of course, but also it will incorporate plenty of “green technology”, as part of BMW’s future plans and investment in the Efficient Dynamics program. BMW plans to use several new technologies and a KERS system that will put the new M5 ahead of the current model, both in performance and fuel efficiency. With the new model, BMW Motorsport estimates a 20% cut in CO2 emissions.

With prices estimated to be starting from £40,723, this is a deal not to be missed!
